Winners — 2017 Pennsylvania Communications Contest

Each January, Pennsylvania Press Club members are invited to enter their best work in the state communications contest, which encourages and rewards excellence in communication.

The contest is open to all Pennsylvania Press Club members, providing an opportunity to compete in a broad range of categories.

First-place winners in the state competition are eligible for entry in the National Federation of Press Women National Communications Contest.

Six members of the Pennsylvania Press Club went on to win 10 awards in the national contest in 2017:
  • R. Thomas Berner — One first place, one second place, one honorable mention
  • Lini S. Kadaba — One first place, one second place, one honorable mention
  • Kay Stephens — One first place, one honorable mention
  • Ellen Scolnic and Joyce Eisenberg — One second place
  • Susan S. Kilcoyne — One honorable mention
Six students also placed in the national judging:
  • Brian Szipzsky — Second place news story
  • Patrick Ferraiolo and Ben Yankelitis — Second place Feature Story
  • Angeline Stein — Second place Cartooning
  • Ethan Rowley and Chase Bennett — Honorable mention Single Page Layout
