Pennsylvania Communications Contest

Pennsylvania Press Club members are invited to enter their best work in the 2020 Pennsylvania State Communications Contest, which encourages and rewards excellence in communication.

Our contest accommodates the typical newspaper and magazine article entries, but we also have categories for those who engage in copy editing, photography, radio/TV writing, web page design, speech writing, social media and blog writing, public relations projects and even more categories for those who write books or contribute to them.

SEE THE LIST OF 2019 CONTEST WINNERS

Our contest entry system is managed through a website maintained by the National Federation of Press Women and is accessible through the organization's website at www.nfpw.org.

All Pennsylvania residents and those who contribute to Pennsylvania-based products are eligible to enter this year’s contest.

Unlike some contests with limited categories, this contest has 57 categories for all kinds of professional writers, editors, photographers, radio/tv reporters/producers and those involved in web writing, blogging, social media, advertising, marketing, public relations and speech writing. Book authors and those who have contributed to books are also invited to enter.

And if you’re a college student or college publication adviser, be sure to check out categories 58 to 61 which were crafted specifically for your entries.

How soon are the entries due?

Aim to make your submissions by midnight on Jan. 28, 2020 at the following entry rates: Current PPC/NFPW members pay $15 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry, but non PPC/NFPW members can enter too, at the following rates: $20 for the first entry and $15 for each additional entry. And the entry rate for collegians is $10 per entry.

Note: If you miss the Jan. 28 deadline, this contest will remain open to accept entries through Feb. 11, 2020. (Final deadline for book entries is February 4.) But those making submissions after Jan. 28 will be charged a $25 late fee, in addition to their entry fees.

Ready to check out the contest further?

Go the National Federation of Press Women’s Communication Contest page, which includes eligibility rules and membership requirements, deadlines, a list of categories, and contest rules. From there, you'll have access to the contest entry website and instructions for entering the Pennsylvania contest which is open to all Pennsylvania residents and to those who contribute to Pennsylvania-based publications and media.

Something else:

You may submit more than one entry per category. And you are encouraged to submit multiple entries. The reason why is that points are assigned for each placing on the winners'’list. And the person who accumulates the most points will be awarded a $75 cash prize from the Pennsylvania Press Club.

But that's not the only way to garner honors in this contest. The first-place winners in the Pennsylvania contest are eligible to be submitted to NFPW for another level of competition with first-place winners from other state affiliates. And everyone who places on the national list of winners is recognized during the organization’s national conference, being held this year in Little Rock, Ark.

If you have any questions or encounter any problems while trying to manage the contest entry website, feel free to contact the NFPW office at 804-746-1033 or send an email to Contest@NFPW.org.
